Carnforth Colts provided the opposition for our last league game of the season. Their determined approach coupled to our sluggish start meant that for most of the first half the score remained 0-0. Mani had had a snapshot well saved following a cross from Joseph and then Harry fired over after a good passing move, but their keeper was playing well and showing a safe pair of hands. We were approaching the end of the half when things started to click. Joseph fired the ball in low and it went through their defence to make it 1-0. Thomas had been moved up front and when Joseph found him with a good pass, he was able to finish well and now it was 2-0. We were attacking more and more - so it was no surprise when Will, in good space, drilled in a low shot to increase the lead to 3-0 at half-time. Colts were still dangerous on the counter attack and Hobie did very well to stop a promising move.
From the restart Colts attacked strongly but we were defending in numbers when we had to. Again we were having the lion’s share of the play and Jake went close after a good pass from Will. Impressive that Will was in a good position to shoot himself when he made that pass to Jake who he judged to be better placed. As a team we do look always to pass to someone who might be better placed – wonderful to watch.
4-0 came after the keeper spilled Seb’s shot and Mani was there to score. When Jake passed to Will and the shot hit the bar, Seb was there to follow up and make it 5-0. Seb’s passing impressed throughout the game as did Michael’s. Mani challenged bravely for a bouncing ball although he must have realised that he would take a knock. He won the ball for Joseph to score but had to leave the pitch for a while. That was 6-0 and then Jake had a low shot well saved. We had a corner that their defence never cleared and when the ball was pulled back to Harry he smashed it into the top corner and now the score was 7-0. Thomas managed a couple more attempts on goal before Jake got in an attempt that was somehow saved at point blank range. Mani managed to hook a loose ball in to make it 8 and Jake finished the scoring to end the match 9-0.
Everyone played well and another clean sheet for Sonny. Although not amongst the scorers Hobie’s enthusiasm and energy took the eye whenever he was on the pitch and was voted M.O.M.
Well done boys, and congratulations on a fantastic season!
